Hello everyone,
I'm planning to install an auxiliary heater (Webasto Top Thermo) in my T5 (manufactured in 2004, but first registered in 2005). The old one is broken, so I'm replacing it with a used one – hopefully it will work.
The control system for the glow plug is faulty on the Alte.
The new part has the number 7H0 819 008 H (the original part was 7H0 819 008 F). According to a well-known software, "H" is the replacement type for "F".
The installation itself is quite simple, but is there anything I need to change or adjust using VCDS? Is the control panel on the rearview mirror compatible with the newer device?
Sincerely,
or
With hopeful anticipation,
the snowman Gruß Schneemann

Hello,
If no one responds, it's likely that no one knows the answer.
The only sensible way is to use the VW parts catalog. I assumed that everyone would figure that out on their own, so I didn't mention it.
If the new part number is listed as a direct replacement for the old control unit in your vehicle, it will likely work.
Feedback regarding potential pitfalls or unexpected effects is, of course, welcome.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,
It's fine if no one knows anything; that's just how it is.
I remember this from when I was in school. The teachers complained about my lack of participation. But why should I raise my hand if I don't even know a wrong answer?
Okay, I've never replaced a control unit with another one (a newer one) before. I'm not sure if there's a general risk of problems occurring in such replacements, especially if the software version is different. I would have preferred some general guidelines, but I probably should have asked directly.
But still: The replacement part was installed, it works perfectly right away, and I didn't even have to unlock anything. The T5 is getting warm again.
Happy Sunday. Gruß Schneemann
