Hello,

First, let's talk about the background!

"While on vacation, a stone shattered my windshield and I had to have it replaced! I took my Passat 1.9Tdi mbk AVF 131PS to Car Glass. I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up that evening. Everything seemed fine until I was driving home, then suddenly there was no throttle response and the engine went into emergency mode. When I got home and tried to park, I realized the parking sensors weren't working, nor were the reverse lights. Since it was dark, I waited until the next day. First, I took it to VW to have them read the error codes. The problem wasn't showing up in the engine control unit (ECU). Then, I checked all the fuses and found that fuse 31 was blown. That explained why the reverse lights and parking sensors weren't working. I replaced the fuse, turned on the ignition, and it blew again immediately. I then contacted Car Glass to ask what they had done, and they re-checked the interior components, but couldn't find anything obvious. From there, I took it to an independent garage to have them read the error codes, and these were the errors that appeared:"

17552 Air mass sensor G70 - Short circuit to ground / interruption.

18263 Data bus, drive software status monitoring.

What does that mean? Could it possibly be related to fuse 31?

I then installed a new LMM (lambda measurement module), but there was no change!

"The vehicle was chipped, but I haven't had any problems since! The car ran perfectly until I took it to Car Glass!"

Could it be that they cut any cables or damaged anything else while replacing the glass?

I urgently need help!

Thank you, thank you!

Best regards, Jan.

Then I contacted Car Glass to ask what they would have done. They looked again at things like the dimmable interior mirror, but couldn't see anything.

Could it be that they cut any cables or something else during the windshield replacement?
Is there a more likely explanation that comes to mind?

Okay, I've figured something out: the dimmable rearview mirror seems to be connected to the rear lights. I'll take off the A-pillar trim tomorrow and check if everything is properly connected there!

Car is running again. Quick troubleshooting steps in case this happens to anyone else!

The dimmable interior rearview mirror with rain sensor is connected to fuse 31, which also controls the parking sensors (PDC) and reversing lights. This caused it to go into emergency mode.

And what exactly was the cause of your error?

To me, this looks like a causal relationship between the windshield replacement/rain sensor and the cutting of the interior light/rain sensor cable in the headliner.
This is a typical beginner's mistake and doesn't exactly reflect professionalism on the part of Car Glass.
