Hello fellow enthusiasts,
Yesterday, after the annual inspection, I wanted to quickly reset the flashing maintenance interval indicator and read the error codes on my A4.
Unfortunately, my VAG-COM 409-1 suddenly stopped working properly!!!
- The startup screen of VAG-COM loaded very slowly.
- The response to keyboard input was extremely slow.
- The process of reading data from '17 instruments' was interrupted with the error message 'Too many communication errors'.
I've been using this laptop (DELL D610, WIN XP, SP3) for this task for almost five years, and it has always worked perfectly.
As usual, the shareware version 409-1, which I had installed on my old laptop, started up very quickly and established a flawless connection to the control devices.
Conclusion: It's actually the DELL laptop

.
After uninstalling several programs, running multiple scans with antivirus/AdAware tools, and reinstalling drivers, I found the solution:
It's the 'Logitech Set Point' software for my new wireless V550 nano mouse that seems to be interfering with VAG-COM in some way.
Turn off the SW and everything will work as usual again!
BTW: You don't really need this software; the wireless mouse works fine without it.
I hope that I have saved some 'legacy software users' a few hours of searching on their computers.
Best regards,
K. O.
