Seat Leon, ARL engine, 136,000 km.
Hi, I started the engine, and the light came on. Because of the slightly altered sound, I immediately thought it might be the freewheel mechanism on the alternator pulley. In its functional state, it should pull the alternator in one direction and allow a freewheel in the other. However, I was too lazy to remove the belt. Since there's a fan inside the alternator, and I was able to turn it with a screwdriver through the housing, I realized that the belt isn't being engaged in either direction. So, the starter motor did not engage or did not engage sufficiently after the engine start. > Faulty freewheel.
However, it is also possible for the freewheel to become jammed, which is usually indicated by the fluttering tensioner when the engine is started.
Okay, I've removed the alternator. Because you can't properly hold the alternator rotor in place with the special socket due to the high force required to loosen it, I quickly used an impact wrench to loosen the freewheel. Don't worry, nothing will break. I then installed the new free-running pulley without using an impact wrench, and I used a bit of thread locker.
