Hello.

Based on the experiences of 98_ALH and my own, I wonder if the starter motor replacement, which has been described several times here as a solution, truly addresses the core of the problem, especially when it comes to warm start issues.
or whether the workshop "secretly" also installed new starter cables and that the transition resistances of the old, corroded cables were actually responsible for the starting problems, but the workshop couldn't resist the temptation to sell another starter motor as well.

If anyone reading this had starting problems that were resolved by replacing the starter, I would be interested to know (if it's still possible to determine):
- Were new cables installed between the battery and the starter, or between the battery and the engine block (ground cable)?
- Or were the connection points of the old cables noticeably clean/free of corrosion after the work was completed?
- Did the new starter motor have a different VAG or Bosch part number compared to the old one?

Hi Ulf,

"With my old TD, I had the problem that the starter motor didn't have enough speed, especially when the engine was warm (-> it would just make a 'orgel orgel' sound), and the magnetic switch was sticking. During a head gasket replacement, I fortunately got access to the connection point for the ground strap to the engine block. I simply used a grinder to clean the connections between the ground strap and the engine block, and the positive terminal and the starter motor (including the nuts, washers, and contact surfaces), and I lubricated the magnetic switch. After that, the starter motor worked perfectly again, like a icon_eek.gif."

Hi Christian,

So, it's also a "cable-instead-of-starter-motor" problem.
It seems to me that it's really coming from the starting quantity characteristic curve icon_sad.gif.

Okay, I'm ready. Please provide the German text you want me to translate.
