Hello,

I purchased the VAG-COM software for troubleshooting and got an adapter from eBay. When I now connect the laptop to my car (Audi A6 Avant 2.5 l TDI, engine code = AEL), I always get the error message "Adapter Status: 5 - Unknown Device". Can anyone give me some tips on how to get this working? I've been searching the forum for a while, but I haven't found anything that's helpful (to me) - I'm a beginner in this area.

Thank you.

Thomas.

I also bought the adapter on eBay. Mine only works first when the laptop is connected to a 220V power supply, and second, only when the motor is turned off.

Hi Thomas,

It's quite amusing what all the error messages VAGCOM has icon_confused.gif.
What does it indicate if you only power the adapter with 12 volts, without plugging it into the OBD socket, and then run the adapter test?

Good evening, everyone.

The error message appears regardless of whether I have connected the adapter to the diagnostic interface or not. I just wanted to try vikinger's suggestion again, so I'm going to power the laptop not from the battery, but from "normal" icon_lol.gif power.

Can anyone tell me what settings you have in the options?

Greetings.

Thomas.

@ Thomas:

Do you have the adapter from marvin 123 (eBay Power Seller)? He constantly offers them for around €60 (also for immediate purchase). I was planning to order one of those adapters soon. Should I maybe reconsider buying it?

Hi Thomas,

As far as I know, these options have no effect on the detection of the adapter.

As long as that's not even working, you should try to get the (or another) adapter to a state where you see the "Found, Ready" message.
Any attempt at dialogue is likely to fail beforehand.

Unless you have a completely novel VAGCOM version. icon_question.gif

@SeatLeon:

Okay, I have the adapter from marvin123. But that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm selling junk just because I can't get it working right now (it has a lot of good reviews!).

By the way, I have version 0.81 of VAG-COM in German.

"Are there any known issues, considering that I have a relatively old vehicle with a 2x2 interface?"

If I find out anything new, I'll be sure to post about it again.

Good night for tonight!!!

Guys, guys, guys, I don't understand you! There's a wealth of knowledge and expertise in this forum regarding the adapter. Ulf's version 2.4 works in almost every situation, and Maik's adapter does too. And you're going to buy one of those on eBay? For 60 euros or more!? I think Maik even offered his adapter, fully assembled and tested, for well under 60 euros. Don't do it, don't buy the adapter on eBay! Here, you'll get support if you run into problems with the suggestions provided here. Getting support for parts from somewhere else will be difficult, if not impossible!

'A friend of mine had a similar part from the same supplier. He also had a 1Z, and it didn't work! He wasted 60 euros! Ulf's version, on the other hand, worked perfectly right away! The guy couldn't hear anything!'

Hey.
The logical consequence is that Ulf's and Maik's adapters must also be available as a kit or even as a pre-assembled product.
I would already be interested in that, for example.
But who will do it????
Best regards from BI.

Peter.

Hello everyone,
I also bought an OBD adapter.
It works perfectly. I downloaded VAG-COM 208.2 from DRV.
No communication problems.
I drive a 2001 Seat Ibiza (EU import) with an ASV engine and a chip tuning upgrade.

@joergs

I don't doubt that the adapters mentioned are better. The problem is that I have absolutely no background in electronics and I'm not naturally good at soldering, etc. Therefore, for me, only a plug-and-play solution was an option.
However, I have to say that the adapter actually works great, except when the engine is running, which means I can't adjust the timing settings for the diesel pump, and I also have to go to the workshop. I suspect that the problem is with the car itself. It has a full range of features and, therefore, a lot of control units. I'm not sure, but does anyone know if this makes communication between the laptop and the car more difficult?

Best regards,

Hello,

I also didn't know (until just now) that Ulf and Maik are offering these adapters ready-made here. If I had known, I would have definitely bought one; it's my own fault, I should have just posted what I wanted. But now I've already spent the money, so I'll try to get this adapter working. However, maybe – after many failed attempts – I'll end up going back to their offer.

Regards,

Thomas.

Hello everyone!

I was also a hasty buyer and purchased an adapter on eBay that doesn't really work icon_evil.gif. The adapter causes error entries in the engine control unit (ECU), and it makes my dashboard squeal like a pig (ABS control unit). As soon as the device is plugged in, the engine can no longer be started, etc., etc.,.... icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif icon_twisted.gif

Maik was so kind and put together one of his adapters for me icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif. I would like to thank him again for his effort icon_lol.gif. I'm not worried at all about whether this adapter will work. If you ask him nicely, he might even sell you an adapter icon_wink.gif.

Best regards from Graz,

Peter.

Hi Thomas and everyone:

I am selling no adapters (including kits) due to time constraints.

If anyone wants to take on my designs and make changes, feel free to do so. I hereby grant my permission.

If your attempts involve the adapter hardware, please write about what you are trying (and of course, the results) - you never stop learning icon_wink.gif.

Hi.

You're never satisfied with anything...
Would an ABS system that only fully engages the brakes below 30 km/h and constantly allows them to partially engage above that speed be sufficient? This would increase fuel consumption and brake pad wear, and significantly reduce performance.

I couldn't help myself icon_redface.gif.

Hi Ulf,

You're right. But you have to make do with what you have. Besides, it only cost 45 euros. I'll definitely get a decent one eventually.

Best regards,
