Auxiliary Heater Problems: Troubleshooting Guide

Hello, I had the auxiliary heater upgraded to a full-fledged heater at a VW dealership 4 years ago.
Now it's broken. I had it replaced, and they need to re-pair it.
What's new is that the car's diagnostic scan now shows a "7D" code, which indicates an issue with the auxiliary heating system.
The people at Bosch who installed the heating system probably don't know what they're doing!
I just checked and saw that the heater is listed under "equipment for vehicles under 18" and is being identified as a supplemental heater.
Now, all they have to do is install the new software!

This dongle can be used exactly once. After that, it is consumed and only suitable for recycling.

The dongle costs almost €400 and is part of an upgrade kit.
The dongle is not sold separately.

So, I would go to Bosch and demand that they install a stand-alone heater for you.
Of course, you should have the VW invoice with you to prove that the defective old device actually received an upgrade.

P.S. The auxiliary heater is also working as it should. It turns on at temperatures above +5°C, and can be deactivated using the "Econ" mode.
They just didn't explain how they could get the software to run on the older device.

Possibly, the air conditioning system and the vehicle's onboard network control unit are also incorrectly coded (set to auxiliary heater mode). So, clear all the error codes and see which ones reappear.

The Webasto upgrade kit includes all the necessary parts, both hardware and software.
First, you need to check the software version in the control unit of the auxiliary heater using VCDS. If it is below version 13.12, you must first update the auxiliary heater software to version 13.12 or higher. However, this cannot be done with VCDS. Then, clear all errors. If there are serious errors stored or the heating unit is locked, it must first be repaired. Fortunately, this probably doesn't apply to you.
Imagine this: The adapter cable, where this dongle is inserted, must be directly connected to the heating system. And it should be connected not through the car's OBD socket, but via an (included) adapter to the connector of the control unit, whether it's a clock or a remote control.
Okay, so you connect one side of the watch adapter to the watch and the other side to the USB port on the computer. Then, insert the Webasto CD and start the program "upgrade.exe". And that's it.
After that, you can use VCDS to desensitize, for example, the interior monitoring system by 50%, if available. Then, you can perform another system scan.

I'm not yet sure why I can't access the heating system through the pre-selection interface (1533 cable) to install the software and turn it into a stand-alone heater.
Since the heating system was upgraded from a basic heater to a standing heater, the wiring is still the same as it was before.
The only thing that was different for me was that the Y-cable had an LED that indicated the power-on point, which I had to disconnect (cut). Otherwise, the pre-selection timer didn't work.
Could it be that I need to bypass this cable with a light bulb to restore the connection to its previous state?
But I also read something about swapping pin 1 and pin 2!
