I have a Passat AVF with 250,000 km that's making a rattling noise and a dull "thumping" sound.
The dull "clattering" sound is clearly coming from the worn camshafts, as the valves are no longer opening completely.
When I accelerate, I hear a brighter noise, and I'm not 100% sure if it's coming from the valves that aren't opening, or if there's also a defect in the crankshaft mechanism.
The owner said the noise appeared suddenly, but it's good that it's a woman, although some people might notice if it gradually gets louder.
The owner doesn't want to invest as much money anymore, and the camshaft with the hydraulic lifters is also quite expensive.
Would you also replace the bearing shells of the NW (presumably referring to a specific engine or component)?
In MWB 13, only the 2-cylinder engine was noticeable.
What do you think about that?
Here's another video.

Are you sure the squeaking noise only comes from the worn-out bearings? I would rather suspect the hydraulic components, as they are likely a major cause of the 'wear-related' noise. With that, and the wrong oil – it's all just a mess.
You can replace the NW bearing shells, as they usually wear out after 150,000 km.

Hello,
Most likely a valve mechanism, but unfortunately I can't really make out much from the pictures. Is there another version of the video available for uploading in the thread (for some reason, it wasn't made available that way)?
Best regards, Rainer.

"Hydros" are naturally included.

"The TPI report indicates quality deviations in the valve lifters and the camshaft."

Today I installed new valve cover gaskets, tappet adjusters, and bearing shells, and now it's running smoothly again.
