A jump start does not increase compression; it only ensures that the fuel-air mixture ignites slightly better (earlier).

I've already written something about WarmStart problems with ALH engines: in 99% of cases, the starter motor is to blame (it rotates too slowly even though it sounds normal). On my IHC 214 D from 1961, I [u]measured everything, replaced parts, and adjusted settings until a new starter motor brought salvation. The "Startpilot" was already permanently attached to the dashboard when I bought it and extended with a hose to the intake manifold. Even today, I still feel the impact of that stuff (extreme pre-ignition due to an uncontrolled ignition timing)... I thought the connecting rods looked like corkscrews.

You could try starting it with a little bit of throttle. The support should be enough.

I've already tried installing a starter motor from a Volvo 844 as a test. It spins much faster, but the engine still doesn't start.

We've actually replaced Start-Pilot a long time ago with brake cleaner.

It works the same way, is cheaper, and is ALWAYS available at the workshop...

'By the way: it seems like glow plugs used in pre-combustion chambers tend to fail after a few starts.' It's not something that can be definitively proven, but I think I'm seeing a tendency towards that.

Regarding your tractor:

Does it have a starter motor or a dynamos? Cleaning all the contacts and cables really works wonders.
