Hello everyone in the forum!

Today, I started my Golf 3 Variant TDI 1Z, manufactured in 1995, drove it about 0.5 km into my garage, and parked it. I left the key in the ignition. Then, I had the rear door open for approximately 2 hours (because the roof antenna needed to be sealed and the headliner needed to be dried icon_sad.gif), and then I wanted to drive the car out of the garage again. I closed the rear door, got in (the key was still in the ignition), and started the engine. It started normally, but then turned off after about 1 second - immediately, I thought it might be a problem with the WFS (likely referring to a specific system or component). I tried starting it several more times, and each time it was the same thing: the engine starts normally, but turns off again after about 1 second.
Okay, I got out of the car, locked it (the LED on the door handle is blinking), unlocked it again, started the car, and it ran... and it's been running like that ever since.
The fault memory in the WFS (Vehicle Functional Status) showed no stored errors, and I occasionally saw the entry "Engine control unit locked" in the MSG (Main System Gateway).
"I remember seven years ago, I had a similar problem with my 35i 1Z. It didn't have WFS back then, but it did have an alarm system. The preheating light wouldn't turn off, and the car wouldn't start at all... Eventually, the fault was found. There was a cold solder joint in the control unit for the alarm system, located behind the dashboard on the left side. After resoldering it, the car has been running perfectly ever since."
However, it's now a bit more complex to consider in relation to the WFS.
Has anyone ever encountered a similar situation and perhaps has a helpful tip for me?
I'm driving a very long distance by car (800 km one way, 800 km back), and of course, I'm a bit worried about the possibility of not being able to start the car at a rest stop or somewhere similar.
I hope for your support!

Best regards, Sascha.

I can imagine that the key signal (transponder) was too weak.

For example, in the Polo 6N, the control unit for the windshield wiper system is still a separate component.

There is often a problem with the connector (cable harness to control unit) that manifests intermittently, likely due to high contact resistance.

It should be similar with the Go3. I would check and verschandeln those first.

Hey, thanks, I'll look into that. Is the component also located to the left of the fuse box?

Best regards, Sascha.

G3 disease... Reading coil of the ignition switch is defective... While sometimes it's just the connectors that are causing the problem, cleaning them only provides temporary relief.

Hey Bertil,
If it's the reading coil, does it need to be programmed when I replace it, or does the key need to be programmed to work with it?
Do you sell them individually, or only as a complete ignition switch assembly?

Best regards, Sascha.

No programming required (no coding) - available individually, costs around €50 each.
With that, the contacts would be clean, and the icon_lol.gif is happy about the revenue:wink:
However, it is the safer option, one must admit.
