Hello dear community,

Unfortunately, I have also become a victim of an oil pump issue... defective hex nut ....

The engine is now STUCK after the engine warning light (oil pressure) briefly came on on the highway.

I'm wondering if I should replace the faulty motor with the MKB BMP through the BMM, since the new pump drive runs via gears there.

Could you please provide me with some guidance?

Thank you, Dierk.

As far as I know, the chain drive system no longer exists.

I'll take the engine apart first and then decide.

Hi,

Regarding your engine, you need to assume a total loss and also a damage to the turbo.
Depending on the wear and tear of the 6-sided oil pump drive shaft, it often slides through over a longer period of time, and then cannot build up the required oil pressure without the warning light being displayed.
I am assuming that you are referring to the drive of the balancing shaft module using a chain.
But the 6-sided gear also occasionally goes over the edge when used with the gear-driven balancing wave module.
To the engine control unit, whether it's a BMP or BMM, it doesn't matter.
If you have a DSG gearbox, you need to make sure that the KWP (kickdown) rod bearing is upgraded when you buy the engine.

Sidebar: If the engine has not yet been opened to examine the cause, it is also possible that the KW (presumably a component) is broken and has become misaligned. Then it becomes much cheaper to get the item running again.

Bye

Jürgen

... Sorry for hijacking this thread.

From this perspective -- with the oil pump's declining performance -- would it be sensible to install an oil pressure gauge in order to detect this problem in a timely manner?

Who knows what the oil pressure should be at operating temperature and approximately 2000 rpm?

I am asking because I also operate a BSS that includes an oil pump with a pulsation dampening module. The previous owner had the engine die after 90,000 km; there was a replacement engine installed in 2009, which has now run for approximately 80,000 km.
