Hello,

The zero offset of the steering angle sensor G85 needs to be adjusted if:
- after expanding the steering wheel.
- the control unit J104, the steering angle sensor G85, or the steering column may need to be replaced.
- after the J104 control unit has been programmed.
- During a wheel alignment, adjustments to the suspension may be made | .
I'm interested in expanding the steering wheel.
Based on my experience with the Ibiza 6L, there are no issues if the removed steering wheel is reattached to the fine-toothed mechanism in exactly the same position as before.
2. (Ignoring potential issues with the airbag and horn contact spirals, which may arise if improperly installed, particularly if mounted incorrectly on the outside.)
Even if the steering wheel is installed at an angle, for example 20 degrees, in the fine-toothed mechanism, and then points in the wrong direction when driving straight: Why might the ESP sensors be confused if the steering column axis, including the G85 sensor, is in the same position as it was before the steering wheel was removed, even when driving straight?

You cannot mount it with a 20° offset.  Unless you also rotate the lower steering column by 20°.  Otherwise, it won't fit into the steering wheel housing. }
Therefore, everything is tilted by 20 degrees, and this is also detected and measured as such. This results in the ABS/ESP system receiving incorrect signals, making the entire situation 'unreliable.'
If the flat cable is mounted too far away, it can tear off under stress.
Since it's already at the maximum setting, possibly at 2, instead of the expected 2.5 rotations. }

But I only remember seeing 2 holes in the steering wheel flange for the driver's airbag when it was disassembled.
1. Steering axis.
2. Flat connector for airbag and horn.
. . . but to no other accompanying findings that I could attribute to the LWS.
Does the lower steering column connector (LWS) essentially connect from the back via the flat connector, or what does the LWS coupling mechanism for the steering wheel look like?

The sensor is driven by the steering wheel. If the steering wheel is, for example, slightly offset on the steering shaft/axis, the steering angle sensor will also no longer be centered.
To ensure proper alignment during installation, mark the steering wheel position relative to the steering column, for example, with a marker.
When replacing components such as the steering angle sensor or torsion spring, it is important to ensure that the steering wheel is removed while it is in the straight-ahead position. New parts are usually fixed in the center position.

You can find the LWS (likely referring to a specific component) located beneath the steering column.
Depending on the generation of the vehicle, this issue may also be located in the steering linkage.

EDIT:
I just found a photo of my old steering wheel with the airbag removed. In the red circles, you can see the retaining pins, as shown in image "lws1" - I had simply forgotten about those inconspicuous little details.
Thank you for your explanations .

The connector is a bit looser, and the retaining clips are more like the small, rubberized bumps.
