Hello,

When replacing the battery on a Seat Ibiza 6L, the green-framed cable duct shown in the attachment significantly hinders the work because it is rigidly connected to the upper part (fuse box cover), which must first be folded away.
Therefore, I would like to separate the cable duct, at least below the dashed line.
However, I don't want to risk losing my vehicle registration.

Therefore, the question is: Is this cable channel a standard design requirement, like the cover for the battery's positive terminal, or just an aesthetic feature to create a cleaner engine bay?

The channel is part of the crash protection concept and serves as an additional safeguard for the cables in the event of an accident.
While there may also be aesthetic reasons for this cover, its primary function is as described above.

See if you can simply remove the lower part... and leave it out. Cutting is always so revealing when it comes to the blue uniforms icon_wink.gif.

. No, the lower part isn't just clipped on or something; it's connected to the rest of the garment as a single piece.
Too bad icon_confused.gif.
But thank you for the answer; it will save me potential trouble during the next vehicle inspection.

I agree. The cable routing in the area that is vulnerable in a frontal collision probably necessitated this additional protection. In many other vehicles, the cables were placed on the back of the battery and routed far enough away from the vulnerable area.

The part shown appears to be part of the manufacturer's documentation (BE). However, I doubt whether this knowledge is universally known among all experts.

Unfortunately, one must now accept that a battery replacement can no longer be done in 3 minutes. The days of the Golf 2 are over. icon_wink.gif

It might be old, but perhaps someone is still wondering today whether it needs to be cut off: No, it doesn't.
I just replaced the battery, and after releasing the retaining clips, you can gently bend the entire assembly forward from the other three sides to access the battery.
