hi,
I want to use the VAGCOM adapter and the Webasto software to read out my Webasto Thermo Top E.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work with the adapter (3 optocouplers and 3 trimmers).
It worked perfectly with the original Webasto adapter, connecting in seconds using my laptop and theirs. Unfortunately, it cost 17 euros.
Has anyone used a VAGCOM adapter to read out a Webasto unit?
if so, then with which adapter?
Is there a wiring diagram available for the original Webasto adapter?

Hi,
With Maik's adapter, it wasn't a problem. I'll try out Ulf's adapter sometime in the next few days, if I have the chance. Gruß Christian

hi,
Okay, then I'll build the adapter and try it out when the Webasto unit is back from Webasto.
While reading the diagnostic data with Bosch software, there was a really cool and revolutionary error code displayed.
'Flame detected, fuel supply recognized.'
That would be very efficient, especially if it also produced heat.
diagnosis from the Bosch technician:
Control unit defective!
Since the unit was only 2 months old and had been working, and it was manufactured in 2003, the Bosch technician told me that a new control unit or even a completely new Webasto heater would be available under warranty.
And now it's already at Webasto.

@PowerSound3L
"I had the exact same problem with my ThermoTop C. And I received the exact same response from Bosch when I asked what it could be. HOWEVER, THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM. It was just the glow plug that was faulty, because in the ThermoTop E and C, it's also used as a flame sensor (due to low resistance, it detects a flame even when there isn't one)." I exchanged it for a used one, and it started working again.
Your issues with the diagnosis are strange. I also connected my VAGCom adapter, and it worked immediately. The connection is actually much more stable than when I connect the adapter to my MSG.

Hi,
Today, I briefly connected an optocoupler adapter, I think it was version 2.3 from Ulf, and I couldn't get it to work. However, I didn't have time to experiment with the potentiometers. Gruß Christian

hi,
Today, the Webasto heater came back (I had sent it in to Bosch for repair).
Unfortunately, I didn't receive a new one.
It seems, as mentioned before, that it was indeed just the glow plug. It appears that only the glow plug was replaced. The connector now has the inscription '2/04,' which means February 2004, so it was replaced then.
It's working in the car again.
Although it's a part from eBay and I installed it myself, without a workshop installation stamp, the repair was still covered under warranty.
In total, it cost me 17 euros for the diagnostic scan at Bosch and 7.50 euros for shipping.

What are you getting upset about? You probably got a whole new burner too, because you can't buy the glow plug separately. That should be the part that wears out the most on the heater. Mine is starting to fail; it's smoking and doesn't have much power left. You won't need to replace that for the next few years.
Best regards.

hi,
Okay, the MAIKs adapter works perfectly.
However, I built a minimal version, just the K-line without the potentiometers and LEDs.

Has anyone ever tried using a large, original HEX-CAN USB interface with this software to see if it works properly? Or is this only designed for serial connections? |

It should generally work as well, especially if it functions with a "simple" interface.

In principle, yes, but there are ways and means... |

hey freax
I've tried using several ISO adapters to read data from my Thermo Top C.

I'm new to this forum and just starting to learn about things like 'Maik's adapter' and 'Jeff's interface.'
Could you please clarify something for me?
From what I've gathered, it only works with a specific setup.
Why? I don't know...
A schematic diagram or kit instructions would be helpful.
Sure, here's the translation:
'Thank you in advance!'
'msfG' doesn't have a direct translation as it's an abbreviation. It likely stands for 'Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Guidance,' but without more context, it's impossible to be certain.

Take a look inside.
Okay, I will translate the text. Please provide the text you want me to translate.
I am using version 2.4 of Ulf. It only works for me with the DOS version (which has a much smaller feature set and no logging, etc.). 1993 Audi 80 B4 1Z

hey!
Thanks for your reply!
I was on the website and reread everything.
I couldn't find any information about an adapter from Maik.
I would also like to know what the differences are.
provides the same functionality as a conventional ISO adapter.
It's really tedious to install Thermo Test software version 2.07 on Windows 98.
Getting it to run and then also dealing with adapter problems.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello PowerSound3L,
Even though an explanation might now be obsolete, the reasoning seems quite simple to me.
It seems like you are using a USB adapter.
The problem is that the TT (temperature transmitter) from Webasto communicates with standard K-line devices (used in vehicles) using the standard baud rate (the speed at which data is transmitted), according to the ISO standard (I won't go into detail here).
This cannot be generated using the standard baud rates that USB devices typically use. This means that it deviates slightly, which prevents any communication from taking place.
While Webasto also offers a USB adapter, it generates the baud rate itself.
Either your PC has an RS232 interface, in which case you can build an interface as described here (nothing special is required), or you can purchase the Webasto adapter, which is not exactly cheap.
Commonly used USB to RS232 converters also do not work for the reason mentioned above!
There are no issues with the newly developed Webasto heaters, which are referred to as W-Bus devices in the device selection.
Hope I was able to help.
Best regards, Atze. |

Does the Webasto software also work with the VAG-COM/OBD2 diagnostic professional system KKL+CAN?
"If so, which connector (OBD 2x1) should the yellow wire from the Webasto be connected to?" Okay, so it's either black or gray. B.Eng (FH) u. KFZ Meister
