Hello everyone,

Okay, I have a question about the hydraulic lifters. So, in my 1Z engine (270,000 km), there's been a bit more rattling after a cold start lately (though it's only happening on one cylinder). For the first 30 seconds, not much changes. Then it gets quieter, and when the engine is reasonably warm (2-3 minutes), the rattling from the hydraulic lifters completely disappears. This also happens when idling, which means with minimal oil pressure.

Should I definitely replace them now? If I don't, should I expect that something else will break very quickly as a result?

Best regards,
Fuschia.

Hi Fuschi,

As long as it doesn't occur when the engine is warm, it's relatively harmless.
