Hello everyone,
First of all, I'm sorry for bringing up this topic again.
Yes, I have tried searching and found relevant threads, but they are quite old, so that's why I'm starting a new one here.
I have a Volkswagen Golf 4 Variant with the AJM engine, which has now reached 257,000 kilometers. I'm not sure when the timing belt was last changed, so I want to replace it as a precaution.
Now, my AJM engine has the engine number 80XXX, which means that, according to the specifications, the timing belt should be replaced every 60,000 km.
Is this regulation still in effect, or are the new kits now approved for use with vehicles having 90,000 km mileage?
Regards,
Tobias.

It generally depends on the cylinder head installed. An item number is stamped on it.
Marking: 038 103 373 C --> Old version --> 60,000 km
Marking: 038 103 373 R --> New version --> 90,000 km
The cylinder heads are sometimes mixed and matched within the range of engine numbers. Therefore, the marking on the cylinder head is essentially what determines its compatibility.

Okay, great. I'll check what maintenance interval my car has and hope that I can stick to the 90,000-mile intervals. Otherwise, tough luck.
Thank you, that answers my question.
