The following description shows how to create a
vehicle scan using VCDS.
What is an Autoscan good for?
- A list of all installed control units, including their VAG part number, software version, and coding, will be provided.
- The vehicle type, engine, features, and year of manufacture are clearly indicated.
- Any existing errors (error codes stored in the control units) will be displayed.
- The VCDS version and the corresponding data version are clearly indicated.
-
Help is only available with an Autoscan of a product purchased from a diesel mechanic, or with a valid OBD Support Key.
When inquiries arise regarding vehicle issues, a vehicle scan is necessary because it eliminates the need for lengthy and repetitive questions about the vehicle.
The Autoscan is created as follows:
- Start VCDS.
- "Auto-Scan" button in the main menu.
- "Start" on newer vehicles with automatic detection via the gateway control unit; on older vehicles, select it from the corresponding selection list.
- Wait, VCDS will query all relevant control units.
- Save the completed car scan by "copying" or "saving" it, and then add it to this forum in the relevant thread.
