Hello everyone,
Given that the growth rate in the MKB reliability survey has been continuously decreasing, and there have been no new additions recently, I assume that the "core" of our cars is now represented. This naturally provides an opportunity to summarize and compile all the data.
In the preliminary evaluation, I was still aiming to put everything into a table, but since additional important fields have been added even after the comments on it, the table has grown so large that, at my 1400x1050 resolution, it now requires the full screen width to be readable.
Therefore, it is more reasonable to divide them according to meaningful criteria, which results in three practical and clear tables that are also easier to embed in a post.
Here's a brief explanation of the methodology and abbreviations used:
"Rating" refers to the periods of your own driving distances or times in a car, because only those can be included in the statistics regarding damages.
"Total" refers to the additional total mileage, which is irrelevant for damage statistics.
"Minor" damages were defined as those that were annoying, but could be repaired either by the owner or for a cost of under 500 euros.
"Severe" damage includes all other types of damage, up to and including the complete replacement of the machine.
Damage resulting from modifications or that are not related to the engine (accidents, suspension, etc.) are NOT covered.
The data source consists of information from a total of 59 cars listed in this forum, and the following values were included in the evaluation:
- 4.2 million kilometers (owned/operated).
- 173 years of independent operation
- 52 minor damages.
- 12 severe damages.
Together, these 59 cars have accumulated 6.9 million kilometers, achieved over a period of 290 years.
(all the things you can calculate...)
Okay, now let's get serious.
ABSOLUTE VALUES
The following table summarizes the ABSOLUTE values of the cars (this is of minor interest, so it's included here), meaning the simple addition of the values of the individual vehicles. In the second column (which applies to all tables), the NUMBER of cars considered is indicated.
RELATIVE VALUES
Absolute values have little statistical significance, so here are the relative values, which were essentially calculated by dividing the absolute values by the number of cars. In addition, there are the average kilometers per month, which is also interesting for assessing engine load – this value reflects the driving profile during the evaluation period (and not the total period).
This table therefore also includes the information regarding damages/engine and kilometers/engine that were previously overlooked in the preliminary evaluation.
DAMAGE BASED ON TIME AND MILEAGE.
Finally, let's break down the damages by time and distance, as I think it makes sense to present them as damages per year and per 100,000 km.
For now, consider this a preliminary final evaluation. As more data becomes available, I will gradually incorporate it.
If anyone is interested in the data itself (which are currently images for easier insertion, making it difficult to extract the data directly), please send me a private message, and I will send you the OpenOffice file containing the raw data (also available in Excel format upon request).
@Rainer: If you want to incorporate the graphics into the page in any way, you can copy and modify them as you like. Of course, this only applies to Rainer and this page; we don't want to find the results of our efforts on some obscure tuning websites.
Best regards,
Jan.
P.S.: I hope I haven't made any mistakes... if I have, they will of course be corrected.
