Glow Plug Indicator Flashing: Error Code Questions

Hello everyone!

Today, shortly after starting my reliable Polo, the glow plug indicator light flashed briefly. I then turned off the engine and restarted it. The flashing was gone.

I have now read the error codes from the system.

Okay, the first thing to check is the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve on the intake manifold. You can test its function using an actuator test.

"When there's a fault with the ambient pressure sensor, things get complicated because it's soldered directly onto the engine control unit (ECU). Refer to measurement block 10 for values."
I would obtain a working sensor from a used engine control unit and solder it in place.

Yes, that's a good choice. As an emergency repair, you could also install two resistors to simulate a specific ambient air pressure. The downside is that driving over high mountain passes will very likely damage the turbocharger and engine. However, if you never actually drive above 1000 meters above sea level in real life, it wouldn't be a problem.

I chose this solution for my air fryer: MPX4115A.

It cost me 25 euros for the materials and soldering when I replaced the height sensor. Whether that's also possible for the OP's Polo needs to be checked.

I have now checked the AGR valve using the actuator diagnosis function.
I only observe that the duty cycle varies between 0 and approximately 25%, depending on the switch position.

Does that mean anything to you?

Does the brake light switch work, or is a brake light bulb burned out?

Because in some models, the engine warning light comes on when the brake light switch is broken. Don't ask why... probably only the developer of the control unit knows.

I once had this issue with my 2003 Volkswagen Golf Variant TDI. My local mechanic (who, admittedly, is a relative) and has 30 years of experience with VWs, had three questions/comments:

- Geht Dein Bremslicht? No.
- Ist die Bremslichsicherung kaputt? No.
"Then come by, we can replace the brake light switch."

The switch on the brake pedal was actually broken. After replacing it, everything was fine again, and I drove the car for many more years without the problem ever recurring.

That's correct; the errors you reported have nothing to do with this effect.

Normally, during actuator diagnostics, the duty cycle switches between the minimum and maximum values (fully on/off). If yours is very low, it could be because the EGR valve is simply defective.

This error is actually occurring quite frequently now. It happens repeatedly when the vehicle is stationary! Is there perhaps a way to reset the MSG?

No, the only option is to repair it.
