Hello everyone,

The BMW 525 tds engine, model M51 (standard equipment in our RR 2.5 DSE), uses a BOSCH rotary injection pump.
equipped with part number 0 460 406 994.

I purchased a BOSCH seal kit, some discs, and springs. I replaced the springs in the high-pressure section of the pump and installed all the parts from the seal kit that were clearly identifiable.

Previously, I diligently read through all the available articles and contributions multiple times.
Then I also got a defective pump from eBay and made my initial attempts on that one, before I dared to try the "real" pump.

The engine now starts up perfectly, responds well to the throttle, and... I want to continue installing the air intake system and other components.

I've noticed something: diesel is leaking quite a bit from the left side of the adjustment piston! I can't let my wife drive this on the highway like this...

There are two versions of the pump on these left and right covers.
My exercise pump has O-rings behind the left and right caps.
Unfortunately, the genuine pump that is installed has what are called metal gaskets (part number 1 461 074 328) on the left and right sides, located under the covers, which are supposed to seal the adjustment piston bore.

I've replaced the seal twice now, but nothing changes. It's still dripping merrily.

What else can I do to improve the sealing? Is there any insider knowledge about things I should be aware of?
The screws have been tightened evenly. The internal pressure of the pump can't be too high, right?

Right now, I don't have any other ideas. We also haven't been able to locate any other leaks below the pump using a small endoscope camera.

It's actually a bit embarrassing, but typical when you put so much pressure on yourself.
and therefore overlooks seemingly obvious details.

Although we were sometimes looking with three people, we were certain that the droplets were coming from the lid.
Looking at it through the camera, it also appeared that the pump was barely wet. However, it was dripping heavily around the edge of the lid.
There was no visible diesel residue running from top to bottom on the casing.

The problem was: a copper ring in the diesel supply line seemed to be not properly seated. Although we had already checked that area before, the leak had not been noticed.

Well, the main thing is that it's solved! Less stress now!

Learn from my experiences as well!

PS:
By the way, I would like a different status, but unfortunately, none of the diagnostic software from this shop is compatible with our Range Rover 2.5 DSE - sorry!
