Hello everyone,
I have a 2006 Touareg with a 3.0 TDI BKS engine and 112,000 km. Occasionally, after being parked and after a short period of inactivity, it doesn't start immediately (the starter motor can't turn the engine over and shuts off). Since the battery, cables, etc. seem to be fine, I've now read the VCDS values for the fuel injectors. It seems like injectors 3 and 5 are failing (they are dripping fuel and causing the problem described above) and need to be replaced.
Nozzle 3: KP1: -44ms; KP2: -20ms; KP3: -4ms.
Nozzle 5: KP1: -36ms; KP2: -24ms; KP3: -10ms.
All other nozzle K-values are in the 0 or positive range.
Can someone please confirm my assessment (files attached)? I don't want to change two nozzles if it's not absolutely necessary.
Thank you.
Uwe.

Hello,
The values are quite noticeable, see:
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.
"Mileage tampered with? 116,000 km isn't that much... But could that be why the starter isn't working? I find that hard to believe; if that were the case, there would have to be significant fuel leakage, and the engine would start with a lot of hesitation and smoke..."
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,
No, I think the speedometer is original. The car looks like "new." The service record is consistent and shows complete maintenance... But I can't say for sure.
"Thank you for your assessment. I will replace both injectors and also re-check the starter battery separately. However, it's strange that after the second or third attempt, the engine starts without any problems and doesn't smoke, even though it didn't start the first time. What I also noticed is that the voltage drops to 8.5V before the starter stops, whereas the voltage hardly drops at all during subsequent attempts to start."
Best regards, Uwe.

Hi.
I would first remove the starter motor, disassemble it, inspect the individual parts (brushes, bearings, etc.), verschandeln them, re-grease them, and then reassemble it before installing it back in the car.
I have experienced these phenomena, as described here, several times, and most often it was due to dirt combined with hardened grease that caused the starter motor to seize during the first cold start.
Basically, the whole process costs €0.00, excluding the time involved. Before installation, I test the starter motor using a battery and jump cables to ensure it's working properly.

Hello.
So, the two injectors are definitely faulty and are leaking.
This "phenomenon" of the brief stalling is also a clear indication of significant fuel leakage during the night. It's a typical sign in V6-CR-TDI engines and is well-known as an indicator of faulty injectors.
The combustion chamber fills with fuel, and this fuel cannot be compressed.
The compression ratio increases due to the lack of combustion chamber space, and the starter motor cannot overcome the increased resistance.
The starter is not "at fault" there .
The reason you don't see any smoke after starting the engine is likely due to the particulate filter.
Replace both of them with new ones (Bosch, from Austria; forget about those cheap, refurbished parts, they don't last long).
Adjusted the code, and it's working again.
Regards, Mpire.

If that is the case, be sure to also vacuum the combustion chamber.
What's surprising is that the engine should be running smoothly when it starts up.

Yes, I think so too, it should vibrate, and the tachometer should fluctuate.

Surprisingly, the engine is running perfectly without any of the mentioned issues. Since removing the starter motor is likely a day's work, I'll replace the injectors and the battery. However, I'll wait until the weather is warmer and do it on a weekend.
Uwe.
