Passat B8: Removing Center Console Trim

Hello everyone, and a happy new year!

I am trying to remove the side trim pieces of the center console in my Passat B8 wagon, but I have been unsuccessful.
I mean the large parts that extend from the floor to the center console and from the pedals to the seat.
There is one screw on both the driver's and passenger's sides, but even after removing these screws, I can't get the parts off.

My son thinks he can manage with the Flex, but I hope there's another solution available.
