Hello dear experts in the field of dictionaries,

I just did a LOG run because I have the feeling that my car isn't performing as well as it used to. I tried to figure things out from the data myself, but it's not easy for a layman. Maybe one of the experts could take a look at it. Perhaps there's an issue with the mass airflow sensor (MAF) given the mileage?

I have saved the log file here:

Hello,

The boost pressure values and quantity limits appear to be good (normal).

It would be helpful in your next log file if you didn't spend half an hour recording and then only capture 5 seconds of the interesting part (full throttle). icon_wink.gif

Best regards, Rainer.

Evening.

First of all, thank you for your assessment. The test drive wasn't easy, as I mentioned that I was driving on a country road, and I rarely had the opportunity to accelerate fully (due to heavy traffic).
I'm going to try again soon.

I've also noticed that I'm not reaching the maximum speed properly anymore. Above 190 km/h, it becomes very difficult, and even on a slight incline, I was already limited to 180 km/h (according to the speedometer).

The most obvious thing to check if there's no leak in the charge air hoses or coolant lines: is it the diesel filter?

The boost pressure hose cannot be the problem, as it was replaced only 4 weeks ago (it was torn).
So, it's practically brand new. However, the display shows a value of 2500 mbar during acceleration (I think that includes atmospheric pressure).
It can't be the diesel filter either; I replaced that just 12,000 kilometers ago.

Oil change, including filter, was done 3000 km ago.

Air filter replacement was done 2000 km ago.

The average fuel consumption is 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers over a distance of 30,000 kilometers (calculated based on fuel receipts).

I did some more research and I suspect that my tires might be the reason why I'm not reaching the maximum speed (225/45R17).

Due to the acceleration issue, I suspected the mass airflow sensor (MAF), as it should be approximately 164,000 km old by now (unless the previous owner replaced it).
However, the LOG values seem to be quite normal (at least, that's what I gather from what I've read about how these values should look).

I've noticed that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate is almost always above 70%. This means to me that the EGR valve is fully open even during acceleration. Or does 100% mean that it's closed?

Would it be advisable to update the engine control unit (ECU) if an update is available?

Hello,

Quote:
For me, that means the EGR valve is always fully open even when accelerating. Or does 100% mean it's closed?

Just check measurement block 4 using your MicroCAN and try giving it full throttle in 3rd gear. I don't remember the exact value offhand, but definitely above 3000 rpm with full throttle, the EGR system is completely deactivated.
Then you'll see the percentage at which the control is set.

Regarding software updates, just ask your local dealer; they can check it for you.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello everyone,

Okay, I finally managed to do another measurement run. Of course, there's some typical "junk" data included (from country roads and construction sites). But I drove at maximum speed on the A39 and A7 highways. I did acceleration tests from 4th gear to 6th gear, always up to just over 4000 RPM.

Measurement block 8 and 10.

Hmm, could it be that the values are actually fine as they are, or am I mistaken?

Hmm, okay, then I'm somewhat relieved. I actually thought the mass airflow sensor was slowly failing and wanted to replace it. It seems that the car is really just slow, and not because of a fault. I guess I expected more from those 140 horsepower than it actually delivers *haha*.
Well, the most important thing is that he drives without complaining.
Thank you very much for your efforts icon_smile.gif.

Hello, although this thread is quite old now, (hopefully the original poster still sees this), the BMW M3 can achieve more than 200 km/h according to the speedometer.
Most cars can reach a speed of 220 km/h.

"I'm experiencing the same problem with my car; it also doesn't go beyond 190-195 km/h. The mass airflow sensor (MAF) has been replaced, but that didn't fix anything. The boost pressure is fine, and the diagnostic trouble codes are 3-8-11, all of which are okay (just like in the original post)."
I put him to the test, and the result was:
105 horsepower at 3500 RPM.
247 Nm at 2500 RPM.

According to the MWB 074 measurement, my lambda value is 1.49, which is significantly too high <- The PDEs were carbonized (they have been cleaned), and it's running better now.
And I suspect that my camshaft is misaligned; error code MWB 004 should confirm this.

I would also recommend that you take a look at the MWB 074 and 004 models.
The MWB 074 needs to be checked in the 4th gear between 3500 and 3800 RPM.

Post02-06-2018, 13:13    Subject: Boost Pressure BMM: Explained & Optimized Quote

Hello everyone,

Could someone please tell me what the boost pressure is for the BMM series?
We purchased an Octavia with a BMM engine and after the work was completed...
After all the repairs, servicing, and adjustments to the wheel alignment, the car is running so well that I'm starting to wonder if the previous owner had it chipped (modified for performance).

Please provide information regarding the desired boost pressure.

Thank you and greetings.
