Hello everyone,

following assumption:
Tiguan 2016, used only once a year with a trailer. Otherwise, no towing. Also no caravan or anything like that.

I would like to install a tow hitch and, very rudimentarily (yes, it's a bit of a mess), install a universal 7-pole trailer socket and connect the lights with jumper cables. The goal is for the lights to only illuminate the rear light on the bicycle. (As it was on the Golf 3, etc.)

1. Will this work?

2. Can a control unit be damaged because the resistance is too high, for example, due to two brake lights being activated simultaneously?

3. Are there any issues with the LED side lights on the Tiguan and normal bulbs on the rear?

4. I expect that various error messages will appear in the AI once the handlebar is connected. But the errors are going away again, right?

Please do not misunderstand, I am simply trying to find the most cost-effective solution to remove the tires once a year.
I don't want to hear instructions like "put the cables forward and connect the terminals to the main bus." icon_smile.gif
Thank you.
Beste Grüße,
Hufe

Counter-question, without wanting to offend you: What prevents you from completing the installation properly?

I am always in favor of dealing with things directly and correctly, because often these things will come back to you later.

What happens when you want to sell the car? Are you rebuilding the tow hitch again, or would you then correctly wire it?

Technically, I'm referring to error messages or malfunctions.
Viele Grüße
Andreas

Ok, I have reviewed and ordered an original carrier with E-set. It's useless.
Thank you!

I've done something similar with an Opel Astra, but not with a universal unit. The car only had one line for both start and brake lights, so it was controlled via PWM.
One had to connect the corresponding cables from the trailer's socket in the correct sequence to the single cable. Works flawlessly for at least 2 years without any issues.
