Hi,
To the best of my knowledge, for vehicles of this age, a new battery only needs to be registered if the vehicle is equipped with a start/stop function.
An AGM battery is often installed there as well. It should then be registered within the Battery Energy Management (BEM) system using the battery's unique BEM code.
Why should I?
The advantage is that the functionality of all systems is immediately available and does not require a "learning phase" first.
For a non-registered battery (or a branded battery without a BEM code), the BEM system periodically monitors and logs any activities that put a strain on the battery.
- so-called trigger events such as starts, cold starts, battery voltage, etc. - the necessary information and then ensures the full functionality of all available systems.
If necessary, as Rainer mentioned, you can simply increment the serial number. As far as I know, it's also possible to use any 10-digit number.
