Hello, I sealed the oil pan on my 2.5 TDI BDG engine (280,000 km) some time ago. During that process, I found two pieces inside the pan (Picture 2). One of them is made of metal (Detail Picture 1), and the other is made of plastic.
"I once found a post with the same (metal) part and the same question using Google Image Search (but I can't find it now). The answer there incorrectly stated that it was a fragment of a drawbar. That is clearly wrong. The part also doesn't appear to be broken off; rather, it seems like it must have been pressed in somewhere."
I suspect it might be something related to the chain tensioner of the oil pump, as the chain itself seems very stiff. The plastic piece could have been a clip from a rail or track.
Can anyone definitively identify this? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has fished this out of oil before.
Thank you.
Andreas
