VCDS HEX-V2: LED Colors and Their Meaning – Simple Explanation of Status Indicators

The status indicator on the VCDS HEX-V2 diagnostic interface provides information about the current operating status through different LED colors. Knowing the meaning of the VCDS HEX-V2 LED indicators allows you to quickly identify connection problems or vehicle errors.

A green LED indicates that the HEX-V2 is connected to both the vehicle via OBD2 and to the PC via USB, and is fully functional. If the LED is blue, there is only a connection to the PC – the vehicle is not connected. Yellow indicates that the connection to the vehicle is active, but there is no connection to the PC. A red LED indicates a connection error to the vehicle, often caused by a faulty K-line (e.g., a radio incorrectly connected to the K-line).

Flashing red/green LEDs indicate active communication and ongoing data transfer. When the HEX-V2 diagnostic tool is turned on, the LED flashes briefly green to indicate a successful boot process.

The clear diagnostic system status display significantly simplifies the use of VCDS. Knowing the HEX-V2 LED colors allows for faster identification and resolution of errors.
