Hello everyone,
This forum has grown significantly over time, providing assistance to many users and offering a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas at a high technical level.
However, with increasing growth, all the problems that every forum eventually has to face have emerged: Questions are asked that have already been answered that same day or previously, unqualified comments are made, or the discussions often stray far from the topic. Of course, this only affects a small portion of the members, but this small group can spoil the enjoyment of the forum for others and, at the same time, lower the overall quality to the point where a newcomer no longer knows whether the advice they receive is actually based on knowledge, or simply a guess that could be wrong and even cause harm.
As moderators, we have long tried to address these problems by deleting posts, warnings, and, if necessary, even user accounts. However, this creates frustration on both sides, and it is not sufficient because we are also human beings and cannot always be immediately available.
To allow for an assessment of the individual comments and feedback, there are different "rankings" or "levels".
Members in the forum can have the following "ranks":
- not at all.
- Overalls (possesses basic technical knowledge)
- Someone who is good at fixing things (has good technical skills).
- Professional burglar (possesses very good technical skills, authorized to moderate everything).
- Administrator (forum operator)
The "level" depends solely on the technical knowledge and how it is applied within the forum. The means to achieve this is through a system called "Karma," which allows members of higher "ranks" to rate those of lower "ranks."
In this way, the entire system regulates itself so that anyone, for example, who is "Blaumann," can contribute by evaluating posters whose content they find meaningful, so that they
(after answering the test questions) can also become "Blaumann." This process continues upwards, and is therefore largely free from arbitrariness, because the individual groups are large enough to outweigh individual opinions in both directions. Similarly, the large number of "Blue Badges" ensures that anyone who puts in the effort can achieve this status within a very short time, even without any problems.
Because assigning karma points on the same level is impossible, attacks of the type where a group of users mutually rate each other are excluded.
Of course, no one is perfect, and it's absolutely clear to us that it will take some time for such a system to become fully operational. For example, we are currently lacking "blue badges," because many of those who are currently "unranked" certainly deserve them. Of course, we will take care of it, but it will probably take one or two days. We will rely on a combination of Karma points and our memory of the individual posters.
Therefore, anyone who has made a meaningful contribution to the forum will not be excluded. It may just take a few days, as we are also people with limited time.
Best regards,
The moderators.
"Die Sonne schien hell, als ich aus dem Haus ging. Der Himmel war blau und es gab keine Wolken. Ich beschloss, einen Spaziergang im Park zu machen. Dort traf ich einen alten Freund, den ich seit Jahren nicht mehr gesehen hatte. Wir unterhielten uns lange und lachten viel. Es war ein schöner Tag."
