Unlocking the vehicle diagnostic protection / Unlocking SFD

While we are working on automating the unlocking process, VCDS already supports the unlock and relock procedure using offline unlock tokens.

The following steps are recommended when working on SFD-protected vehicles:

1. Determine which control units you need to modify, for example:
   
   • Brake electronics for work on the parking brake.
     
   • Information electronics for service reset
   
   
   
2. Check if the diagnostic firewall was disabled when opening the hood.
   Connect to the "Data Bus/Gateway Diagnostic Interface" (#19) and access the Extended Measurements in the Diagnostic Filters section.
   
   Case A: The filter is NOT active.

   ➔ In this case, you can skip steps 3 and 4. The diagnostic firewall is already disabled.
   
   Case B: The filter is ACTIVE.

   ➔ In this case, you must perform steps 3 and 4. The diagnostic firewall is active.
   
   
3. Unlock the "Diagnostics Interface for Data Bus/Gateway" (#19).

   Verify that the following measurement displays a number of minutes greater than zero:

   (This counts down from zero, after which SFD will be automatically locked again.)
   
   Disable the diagnostic filter in address #19.
   Typically, you should set the adaptation channel

5. Unlock (all) additional SFD-protected control units that you want to modify.
