Hello everyone.

I have a Golf TDI 90HP, manufactured in May 1995. Since yesterday, I've been experiencing the following problems:
If I'm, for example, driving in 5th gear and I release the accelerator and then press it again, what happens?
'There's nothing else, just white smoke coming from the exhaust. The car only accelerates again when the RPM drops below 2000.'
Yesterday, the engine was very difficult to start, and after it started, there were...
Large plumes of white smoke are coming from the exhaust. Since this morning, the engine won't start.
completely turned off. Yesterday, I noticed that in the pre-rinse section of the sprayer system...
A lot of air bubbles were present, but I couldn't find any leaks.
Finding sprinkler lines.
Can someone give me a tip on where I might be able to find the error?

Regards,
Klaus.

Hello Klaus,

Instead of connecting the fuel line to the fuel tank, try attaching a hose to the diesel filter and directly inserting the other end of the hose into a canister of diesel.
If your car is running normally again, then either the fuel line from the tank to the diesel filter is leaking/blocked, or the fuel tank ventilation system is not working properly.
How old is your diesel filter (in kilometers)? Did you accidentally put contaminated fuel in your tank?

Best regards, Rainer.

Perhaps you once filled up with biodiesel? The dissolving of deposits can sometimes cause the filter to become clogged.

Hello everyone.
First of all, thank you for the answers. The fuel is now being delivered without any air bubbles.
I blew out the fuel lines and the fuel tank vent.
The engine still won't start. I tried jump-starting it.
'But only white smoke is coming out of the exhaust.'

Regards,
Klaus.

Hello Klaus,

If the diesel filter, fuel injection pump, and fuel lines are full of air, it may take some time for the vehicle to start.
Loosen the retaining nuts on each injector, place a cloth underneath, and briefly run the engine until fuel starts to leak out.

Ensure that no significant fuel is leaking from the loosened nuts. Then, re-check the fuel supply and the function of the shut-off valve (solenoid) in the injection pump.

If the vehicle still doesn't start, even though the system is largely free of air and fuel is leaking from the fuel injectors, you should definitely check the timing belt, the crankshaft sprocket of the timing belt, and, in short, the fuel injection timing!

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello everyone.

Thank you for your help. The problem is solved.
The timing belt pulley on the camshaft was misaligned. I'm not sure how that happened.
It could have happened. I once installed a new timing belt.

Regards,
Klaus.
