Could someone provide me with a simple guide on how to replace the air filter in a Passat 35i with a 1Z TDI engine? I'm not sure how to do it correctly because the A/C pipes run over the air filter housing. Also, does anyone know where the air intake is located (the exact position), and if there's a coarse filter grille there as well?

Best regards, WarLord.

Hi,

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), my Passat doesn't have air conditioning. When I open the hood, I can access four brackets and have the air filter in my hand. Normally, it sucks in air from the right fender using a kind of 'trumpet,' where the space is structurally separated from the engine compartment...
I can't answer your question about the climate.

Regards,
David.

I can see the brackets, but I'm having trouble reaching the ones at the back. I'm also not sure how to remove the cover, or if it can be slid to the side.

Best regards, WarLord.

Unclip the 4 clasps, and then you can remove the lid just like from a Rama container... icon_wink.gif
You still need to adjust it a bit, as it sometimes gets stuck under the bridge of the fender.

Do I need to detach the hose connected to the mass airflow sensor somehow, or can I simply fold it away along with everything else?

Best regards, WarLord.

Sorry, but that's a bit too stupid for me right now... icon_mad.gif
Of course, you can fold the Schaluch away; that's why the flexible piece is built in.
Isn't that even stated in the instruction manual?!

I thought it was there, but I couldn't find it yesterday. Sorry for the silly questions, but I just don't want to break anything. There isn't a pre-filter in the front of the Passat, right? I read something about a pre-filter for leaves and didn't see that on my car.

Best regards, WarLord.
