Hello everyone!

My first question:

How can I mechanically disable the AFB (Automatic Body Control) system? It's an A6 quattro, manufactured in 9/99, with 110 kW. Attempts to remove fuses to prevent starting have been unsuccessful. The darn thing always starts, even after removing the fuses for the engine control unit, the auxiliary diesel pump, and a second fuse supposedly related to the EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) system. The car always runs. I haven't been able to find a 109 fuse, and the car doesn't seem to have one.
Auf der ESP gehen vier, hitzebeständig ummantelte Kabel zum Magnetventil, welchen davon unterbrechen?????? Bewilderment...

Second question:

"The A6 belongs to my brother, and he's complaining about a gradual loss of performance. Besides the fact that the car is long overdue for a service, I suspect the mass airflow sensor (MAF) is slowly failing. Apparently, this is a common issue with the A6. I'm going to check the air filter and disable the EGR valve. What thickness of sheet metal is needed, aluminum or steel? I have no idea what temperatures are common in that area. I do have aluminum sheet, so it would be easy to use that."

I'm also going to take a look at the intake manifold; it might already be clogged.

A smudged Peter greets you.

Hi,

Unfortunately, I can only offer advice regarding the metal sheet. Please use a material that is as acid-resistant and heat-resistant as possible.
Otherwise, holes will form. icon_confused.gif
That just shows you what damage an EGR system can do to an engine.

Best regards, Rainer.

You're welcome!

Okay, so acid-resistant VA (stainless steel) sheet! Hmm, I think I might have some lying around.

Greetings, Peter.

Yes, that's an idea... but could it also be done with carbon fiber??? *ggg*

@all

I also want to deactivate my AGR (Abgasrückführung) system tomorrow. What I don't quite understand yet is the issue with the metal plate.

Should I pretend?
1. Option: Disconnect the hose from the mechanical EGR valve, seal the opening with a screw, and leave the EGR valve open?
2. Option - Disconnect the hose from the mechanical EGR valve and insert a piece of metal into the hose, then reattach the hose? Did I understand that correctly?
What happens to the mechanical EGR valve then? Don't I need to ensure proper pressure equalization?

Thank you for your help.

No, the metal plate is placed in the exhaust duct before the EGR valve. This way, the valve can open or close as much as it wants, but no exhaust gases will reach it.

The metal sheet should really be quite durable. Initially, I had used a sheet from the computer case (made of the same material as, for example, the slot covers) for about 10,000 km. It was quite thin and 'worn' in that area. It was very close to being completely damaged, and I could have easily pierced it with a screwdriver...

So, between the exhaust gas recirculation pipe and the AGR valve, did you insert something in between and then attach the pipe?

Does the sheet metal also need to be completely airtight?

Well, I'm not entirely sure if I know where this piece of metal is supposed to go. Is there a diagram available, specifically for the V6 TDI?

Thank you.

"... Yes, but it's quite simple: gasket - sheet metal - gasket. You already have one gasket, and the friendly salesperson will sell you the second one. Using the gasket as a template, you can cut the sheet metal to the correct size."

Then you should also put the sticker "... Drive without operating permit..." on the tailgate, right? icon_wink.gif
The point of using a "blechlösung" (a type of camouflage) is that it's not immediately obvious. Your solution is so obvious that even a blind person could see it!

Hi Bertil,

Yes, I agree with you! But at least I managed to pass the technical inspection with this thing. icon_biggrin.gif

If this plastic cover is on the engine, no one will look at the hose connected to the EGR valve, and neither will I.

Okay, it's not exactly stylish, especially with the paint residue, but it definitely serves its purpose.

Furthermore, I'd like to try a different intake manifold. I'm thinking of one from an SDI or one from ALL4TDI, let's see which one I can find first. In that case, I would need to remove this connecting pipe in this specific way.

Of course, the standard appearance is lost, there's no question about that.

Greetings.
Thomas.
