Hello experts,

I'm replacing the window regulator in my Golf IV for the third time! The plastic parts are a real design flaw; they break every year. And something stupid happened:
Since the replacement part is currently unavailable, I repaired the window (of the passenger door) using strips of sheet metal.
Reattached the latch, reattached the train handle to the door handle, reattached the lock and locking mechanism, performed a function test as recommended by Etzold, and closed the door.

That's it - it's not working anymore icon_sad.gif. Neither the door handle nor the internal mechanism.

The interior paneling and all the internal components of the door are still missing. The central locking system works when I connect the motor of the window lifter.

Is there a trick to it?

It would also be helpful to have a drawing of the locking mechanism so that I can, if necessary, deliberately destroy it icon_evil.gif.

Best regards.

Helmut ---- somewhat restless ----

Hello Helmut,

I'm not sure if this will help, but I had a similar problem with my G3: The motor was working, but the door wouldn't open. The problem was that the magnetic switch in the safelock system was stuck. I unplugged the connector, and the door opened again. I don't know if this will work for your IVer, though! The connector should be located directly on the locking unit.

Best regards, johnnyc.

Hello, I hope this answer isn't too late.
A few weeks ago, I had the same problem. I repaired the door handle mechanism, but after a day, it stopped working again. So, I called a friend who's a locksmith and, following an "online guide," I did the following: -I pulled on the door handle and, using a small screwdriver, I levered the cable out of the handle mechanism- I detached it (from the small plastic grid), opened the door, and let out a huge sigh of relief. Apparently, during assembly, I had pulled the cable too tightly outwards. When opening the door, this pulls the door on the cable, causing the lock to move to a position outside of its tolerance, which leads to it getting stuck. Normally, the lock is released by the cable first, and when the handle reaches its end position, the door is pulled open. However, the cable shouldn't be at its limit in that position. I hope this makes sense - it's best to see it in action.

Greetings.
Andreas.

Hello,

Michael emailed me some great copies from a repair manual; I immediately understood what had gone wrong. 98_alh, you described it perfectly.

This morning (Thursday), I immediately went out and checked the train: It's working again! icon_biggrin.gif

Etzold has omitted something important. It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one who would get caught up in something like that.

Thank you to everyone at...

Helmut.

What now?
If you pull the handle outwards, as you would when opening, you can use a screwdriver to access this strange locking cable and pry it out, allowing the door to open from the inside again?

Or how am I supposed to understand this now?
