Hi!

It's always just about the consumption per 100km. However, in stop-and-go traffic, the fuel consumption during idling has a significant impact.

Can it be reduced, for example, by lowering the idle speed? And what is the typical fuel consumption rate for standard engines (in liters per hour)?

I've also thought about this (especially since my friend's 300D only runs at 500 RPM), and I've come to the conclusion that it's not good for the engine. The oil pump would also pump less oil, which could eventually cause the lubricating film to break down and put more stress on the bearings. Furthermore, it would make starting more difficult (personally, I usually start our TDI without using the accelerator, only using it when the environment requires it, such as going uphill, especially with a trailer). Only our gasoline Punto needs the accelerator to start (it has the smallest engine, a 1.2-liter with 8 valves), and even then, I don't give it too much.

Best regards, WarLord.

Ja! Engine off!

Are you worried about fuel consumption?? Then, for goodness sake, use the engine brake! (see another thread)
