Winter is just around the corner, which means it's that time of year again when things start to overheat, and probably when the cooling water glow plugs will come into play.
I know the general function and purpose of candles, but I'm wondering:
Is there any benefit (e.g., reduced consumption, less wear on relays) if I remove the fixed fuses of the 3 cooling water pumps because they are not being used due to frequent short trips?
"To deal with cold drivers, I have a heated seat, and by the time the water is warm, I'm practically already at work anyway..."
Or are these things actually more useful for the engine than for the passenger compartment (in which case, they would be located in an awkward place in the system, in front of the heat exchanger for the interior)?
Thank you.

Okay, the glow plug heater requires a maximum of 450W, which must be supplied by the alternator. A reduction in consumption by switching it off is probably not measurable. I'm happy with my TDI when the engine warms up faster. The location is certainly a compromise between faster heating of the heat exchanger and faster engine warm-up, but ultimately the heat is also supplied to the engine, which means that the operating temperature is reached a little faster and the wear-intensive cold start phase is reduced. Since the entire system is controlled by the total load of the alternator, meaning it only heats up when the alternator's power is sufficient for all consumers, I don't see any reason to disconnect it.

The driver directly influences whether the glow plug heating primarily benefits the engine or the interior: using the blower switch or the heating control.
If the heating is set to 'cold' and/or the fan switch is in the 'off' position, the radiator will absorb very little heat, so the water flows almost unchanged in temperature to the engine.
So, those things actually have a purpose.
The engine is happy.
