Hi!

I've been considering for a while whether I should get more power out of my Golf (with a 1Z engine) through chip tuning or a tuning box. So far, all the workshops I've consulted have advised against it, all with the argument that the pistons would melt (I told them directly that I have a heavy foot...). Also, the engine is now nicely broken in (it just reached 100,000 km) and I should leave it alone for that reason too. Has anyone here had any experience with this, or can someone tell me if it would be too risky to tune the car? If so, what would be better: a tuning box or a remap?

PS: Some people claim that the Golf 3 doesn't have a diagnostic connector or an error memory. However, I've read that there are people who have a 1Z engine and were still able to read error codes. Does my Golf (manufactured 05/94) have a diagnostic connector or not?

Best regards,
MisterX

Hello,

The Golf 3 generally has a diagnostic port, located to the right of the ashtray. However, with the 1Z model, transmission problems often occur, but these should be a thing of the past with the 'largest' adapter version and the corresponding settings.

This has already been discussed extensively here. Please refer to the relevant articles and use the search function if necessary. You will quickly find the following three articles.

Hi again,

I've already given up on the idea of a 10-cent tuning, as I believe it yields little benefit and requires a significant amount of work (and what would the TÜV say about it...?).

'Approximately how much power can I safely extract from this car? So far, I'm generally very satisfied with the car, especially in terms of maintenance and fuel consumption (6 liters per 100 km with a heavy foot, 4 people, and luggage; the speedometer indicated a maximum speed of 190 km/h). However, in my opinion, the acceleration is too weak, and I don't want to have to reach those 'magical' 200 km/h only going downhill with a tailwind.'

For diagnosis:
What values can I access through this diagnostic connector? I was thinking about installing a Linux computer in the spare tire well, and I know there's software available that's compatible with OBDII (does the 1Z have OBDII?).

My friend had his 1Z engine chipped, increasing the power from 115 hp to 115 hp and the torque from 252 Nm to 252 Nm at a mileage of 125,000 km.

At 245,000 km, a truck ran a red light and abruptly ended the life of the 1Z.

I only had my AFN engine chipped at 170,000 km, and it currently has 218,000 km on it. I drive at 80% full throttle on the highway!

Regards,

Manuel.

Hello,

I have similar plans, but my question isn't whether I should do it, but rather whether I should consider certain things beforehand.
My Ibiza has approximately 170,000 kilometers on the clock.
I would like to know what parts should ideally be replaced before chip tuning (or "10-cent" tuning), specifically things like injectors or similar components.
Is it safer to exchange them beforehand? As far as I know, they haven't been exchanged before.

Thank you.

I would also like to know that!

As far as I know, nothing has been replaced on the car yet, except for the timing belt, which I had replaced about 1000 km ago.

'Can anyone tell me what the maximum boost pressure the turbocharger can have to be on the safe side? I was thinking of installing an LDA (Lambda-controlled direct injection) because I feel like the boost pressure drops off significantly at high RPMs. I observed it again yesterday:'

The car, according to the speedometer, can reach 190 km/h, but it does so with difficulty and effort.

ps:

What interface does the Golf III actually have? I want to install a Linux computer and connect it permanently to the car. So far, I've found software that works with OBD-II, but I don't know if my car has that interface.

because, in my opinion, it doesn't yield much and requires a relatively large amount of effort .

I was thinking about installing a Linux computer in the spare tire well.

HAHAHA icon_lol.gif

Where does one need to put in a lot of effort?
Try the 10cent device; it's not much worse for the motor than a power box. (And it's easily switchable.)
The TÜV (German technical inspection agency) and the race officials don't like this at all. In fact, you'll actually lose your vehicle's operating permit (ABE) with it (as explained in the technical article).
