GRA Installation/Activation Audi 80 TDI 93

Hello,

I have a 1Z TDI engine from a 1993 Audi 80 in my T2. This wiring harness doesn't yet have the wiring integrated for the GRA function.

'Does anyone perhaps have the complete PIN configuration for the control unit for this function? The Audi wiring diagram doesn't provide any information on this.'

Hi Andi, it seems the control unit is not designed for GRA (presumably referring to a specific system or function).
Instead, a dedicated control unit with a vacuum pump is used.

I highly doubt you have a 1Z in your T2 .

It will be a Type 2 T3 - but I don't call my Golf a Type 1, even though it is .


The number you mentioned doesn't fit the VAG parts numbering system.

I would have expected something like "028 906 021 AF"...

Is that a Bosch part number?

Doch, die Steuergerätenummer stimmt. Hab' ich in meinem 80er TDI 1/93 ebenfalls. Aber auch mein freundlicher meinte auf Nachfrage, dass bei diesem Modell nix mit GRA geht. Too bad.

Funny situation.

If you write it in the VAG format, it would be 028 100 118 5, which would indicate a motor part (the second block starts with 1).

I can confirm this 'urban legend': it's not so easy to retrofit a GRA (Gas Return System) to the early 1Z engines, and also to the early TDI engines in the T4 (MKB ???). My local mechanic was even surprised that I had retrofitted a GRA to my '94 1Z. He was absolutely certain that it wouldn't be possible...

1H0 906 021 AF (fictitious part number)

1H0 == Golf 3
9xx == Electricity
021 == Arbitrary, the part itself.
AF == Addendum, used when there are different versions.

To the second block.

1 - motor
2 - Transmission and exhaust.
3 - Front axle?
4 - Rear axle?
5 -
6 -
7 - Lever mechanism, pedal.
8 - Construction (almost everything else)
9 - Electricity

That was just off the top of my head, and I'm not entirely sure about it anymore.
