Hello,
Please help me solve a problem for my brother-in-law, who lives in the Mainz area.
He owns a Skoda Octavia Combi TDI with 81 kW (engine code EGS - is that what he means?!!).
1.) He has been experiencing recurring performance issues during driving for some time, and the problem intermittently resolves itself. The engine doesn't stall, and the turbocharger pressure regulator has already been replaced three times.
2.) Now, the turbocharger needs to be replaced, and Skoda is refusing to cover any further warranty claims as a courtesy, because an oil change was performed at the dealership where the new car was purchased, and they...
According to the current regulations, they are only allowed to sell new cars, but not provide maintenance services.
He was never informed about this issue; rather, when he received the new car, he was explicitly instructed to contact the salesperson for any problems he might encounter.
Please help, and best regards from Austria.
Georg.

hello georg,
Without any measurements, it will be pure guesswork. Many things could be the cause.
Try searching for 'loss of power' in this forum, or look through some technical articles. You're sure to find something that helps you solve your problem! Take the time and put in the effort to search and read!

'This problem has been occurring intermittently for the past 2 years. The boost pressure regulator has supposedly been replaced 3 times, but the issue keeps recurring intermittently.'
Error code: 17965
Boost pressure regulation: Limit exceeded.
It was determined in the workshop, and a new turbocharger was offered!
Is this real, or just a scam? The error code description says...
Possible causes:
Hoses connected incorrectly, not properly attached, leaking.
Possible effects:
reduced performance.
'Boost pressure is too high.'
Currently, the engine is working again, but a longer trip is planned, and we don't like surprises.
I urgently request more tips .
Thank you and best regards.
Georg

Hello,
I know of a similar case from another forum. In that instance, the workshop mentioned that, as a last resort, they would replace the turbo.
It was reported that the workshop had only connected the diagnostic tool and performed a 'basic calibration.' Unfortunately, I don't know what this basic calibration entails, but perhaps someone in the forum might know.
Best regards,
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'Richi' is a German word that means 'request'. It can be used as a noun or a verb.
As a noun, 'Richi' can refer to a formal request, such as a request for information or a request for assistance. It can also refer to a more informal request, such as a request for a favor or a request for help.
As a verb, 'Richi' can mean to request something. For example, you might say 'Ich habe einen Richi gestellt' to mean 'I made a request'.
Here are some examples of how 'Richi' is used in German:
* 'Ich habe einen Richi für Informationen erhalten.' (I received a request for information.)
* 'Ich habe einen Richi für Hilfe gestellt.' (I made a request for help.)
* 'Ich habe einen Richi gestellt, aber ich wurde abgelehnt.' (I made a request, but I was rejected.)
I hope this helps!

Hello Richi,
Not everything you hear is true.
You can switch the engine control unit to the basic settings mode.
In this process, all actuators are controlled using predefined values.
The basic settings mode is primarily used to check mechanical settings, i.e., to verify the interaction between the control unit and the existing actuators.
The previous error still persists even after enabling the default settings mode.
So, you've heard nonsense.
By the way, you should no longer post anything with Quote: | 'Hello,
I read in another forum... ' | start, but only write when you are sure about something.
There's either a fault in the vacuum system controlling the turbocharger boost pressure regulation, the solenoid valve for the boost pressure regulation is defective, the variable turbine geometry (VTG) adjustment in the turbocharger is sticking, or the vacuum actuator on the turbocharger has a broken spring or is jammed.
Best regards, Rainer.

Well, it stated that the error was resolved after that, and that information came from a very reliable source.
I was mainly trying to offer a little bit of help that would hopefully lead to further discussion. Also, I wanted to hear an explanation of what the 'basic position' is and what's involved in it.
Thank you.
Best regards,
