I found this auction!

[EBucht Link]

I can only say: 'Speechless.'

He doesn't make a secret of the fact that there's only a resistor soldered in!

Regards,

Manuel.

The more I discover about the junk on eBay, the more I wonder if this information should really be accessible to everyone everywhere.
There were already CDs available with copied technical articles from dieselschrauber.de, as well as diagnostic adapters (the simplest version described in the article, using just 2 transistors) for around 40 euros.

Unfortunately, the disadvantages of the offered material are not addressed. It's clear that the goal is to make easy money at the expense of newcomers, without any effort or critical thinking on their part.

On the other hand, it might be a good thing if people can read everything here, because then buyers at least know what kind of junk they spent money on, or how they were ripped off. icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

I'm not really a fan of cease and desist letters, but when some idiot copies free content/texts from authors on dieselschrauber.de verbatim and then sells it for money on ibai, I wonder if it might be worth consulting a clever lawyer. icon_evil.gif

Best regards, Rainer.

Full agreement... Where should I sign? icon_biggrin.gif

Sure, here's the translation:

"Anything else?"

Okay, if I haven't made a mistake in my calculations, 100 horsepower is "only" 73.5 kilowatts and not 76. Oh well, it doesn't really matter to me.

Good morning, everyone!
I assume that the main issue here is the text used by the eBay seller.

However, I couldn't identify a single 'genuine' chip in that particular offer...

Best regards,
Dominique.

I can give you more links where the text from the DS homepage appears. We had a similar thread here some time ago.

'This is also disturbing! But more importantly, as Bertil already mentioned, it's the missing TÜV (German technical inspection) report. Imagine this: you're overtaking, you see oncoming traffic, and suddenly that great power cable comes loose and everything stops working! It's a horrifying scenario!'

In my opinion, what he's claiming to have invented is nonsense. He'll only achieve a lasting performance increase if he feeds the engine control unit (ECU) with a high fuel temperature reading! And a temperature compensation system like the one he describes probably wouldn't be that simple! And even if it works, he won't get the performance increase he claims! Besides, the 'thing' he's doing only costs a few cents. But we've already discussed all of this many times before!

As Bertil already said: make as much money as possible with the lowest possible investment!

Well, don't all act like that. Someone has to buy this junk on ibai, otherwise there wouldn't be so many listings, right? icon_wink.gif

@Rainer:
I would be in favor of you sending cease and desist letters to them regarding copyright infringements; then your forum would at least be financially secure, and we users wouldn't have to pay for it! icon_biggrin.gif

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

I fully agree!
I've also gotten frustrated about this too many times, especially regarding eBay or some of those "tuners." icon_evil.gif

And the stuff that doesn't come from the forum is mostly nonsense!

People buy scrap metal from those who have absolutely no knowledge of diesel engines, and they rely on the supposed trustworthiness of the seller. The website on eBay looks very appealing, and it's also explained in a way that seems harmless to laypeople.
I might have bought something like that when I was 18 years old, with no knowledge and no money icon_redface.gif.

But a lot has changed thanks to diesel mechanics! icon_idea.gif

In my opinion, it doesn't matter whether you buy a tuner box on eBay or go to a reputable tuning shop; the result is equally bad.

I've even seen the advertisement: "No cheap, ten-cent tuning, like what's offered on some websites..."

I'm not the author, but you can definitely get too much information from that.
If I find the link again, I will post it.

Greetings.
Thomas.

Okay, first of all:
I completely agree that serious tuning is something different.
and that these eBay offers are almost always scams.
and I believe there are enough valid reasons to reject this kind of 'tuning.'

but in my opinion, the following do not belong to that category:
@joergs, why and under what circumstances would a standard 150-ohm resistor 'fail' or become unusable?
'burn out? break? detach itself automatically? icon_lol.gif, sorry, I don't see that.'
2. @everyone, the effect is noticeable, especially in low temperatures.
Certainly! More torque, even at an outside temperature of 30°C (but slightly less).
I blame the slipping clutch in my Golf 4 ATD 74kW entirely on myself.
For such a small amount of money (literally less than 10 cents), you get a lot more performance.

Okay, and now, throw stones at me icon_cool.gif.

@durness

I believe that if you search, you'll find a thousand reasons why something like this could fail. We were just discussing it in a thread recently! Even a slightly inaccurate solder joint is probably enough to cause problems.
Well, if you're happy with it, then that's great for you! Have you ever thought about the fact that what you're doing is illegal, that you have no insurance coverage, and that your operating license has expired? What suffering you might be causing to others? There's a reason why tuners have to pay a fortune for inspections!

This is not meant to be a condemnation, just a prompt to think about certain things.

@joergs
Even with standard chip tuning, there are many unreliable providers.
And I would say that there's also a high percentage of users who are using the platform illegally.
(I wonder how many users are actually using this very precisely described $0.10 tuning?)

I don't want to downplay anything with this, and I certainly don't approve of it, not at all icon_exclaim.gif.
And I'm not using it anymore either, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I found the arguments against it to be superficial and insufficient.

But let's get back to the main topic.
'Scamming on eBay with junk.'
we have now drifted apart a little icon_eek.gif.
