Hello friends,

I'm getting my new VW Sharan with a PD-TDI 115 hp engine in February 2004.

Right now, I'm gathering information about the possibilities for tuning.

I received the following response from a tuner in reply to my inquiry:
that the possibilities are very limited with this model.
You can forget about using a chip tuning solution for the Sharan model year 2004. It has an EDC16 engine control unit, which can only be modified by a specialist, and the failure rate for such modifications is approximately 50%. Price approximately 2000 (currency unspecified), currently.

Powerbox is not compatible with this model's EDC16 system. It's a momentary control unit, and the system would immediately detect it.

So, it's only about the chip. We still need to do some research before it becomes affordable, probably about a year or longer.

Here's the translation:

'Quick tip: Buy a Sharan with EDC 15.'
[End of quote]

Who knows more about this?

Hello Wolfgang,

The tuner in question is absolutely right!

While it's only a matter of time before the EDC16 system is reliably cracked.
but the failure rate should also be very high even with 'legitimate' software updates.
(Information from a third-hand source). Whether and under what conditions the EDC16 will then...
reliably tune / flash icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

If your Sharan really has the EDC16 system, you'll probably have to start by...
living with the standard performance icon_sad.gif

Best regards, Rudi.

Hello,

Hopa offers a power box for this purpose. Also, also auch für den Golf V 140PS PD TDI.

The part for the Golf V has already been tested by 'Gute Fahrt' magazine and was rated as good.

The EDC16 isn't really that mysterious. The major tuners (Öttinger, ***, Hopa, etc.) already offer chips or tuning boxes for it.

Hello Thomas,

'The major players' are currently using the tool from CSW, which is accessed via...
The processor's debug port is active. Problems arise then.
'if such a manipulated control unit is connected to a current...'
A VAG tester (VAS...) is connected, and it indicates that...
'Software needs to be updated.' Then, this control unit can only...
...will be returned to the manufacturer.
There are a few tricks that are supposed to prevent these updates.
but the developers at VAG aren't stupid, so that's not something that can just happen.
can know what will happen after the next update of the test software.

Boxes are a topic in themselves (and I'm referring to the current Hopa PD parts).
I have no further information - but not mine icon_cool.gif.

Best regards, Rudi.

Hi,

I just took a look at the "big" tuners and found the following information about the Austrian ones.

http://www.tuneline.at/produkte/output.asp?s_marke=Audi&s_fahrzeug=Audi A3 new&s_motortyp=BKD

They offer to increase the BKD engine's power to 185 PS and its torque to 440 Nm.
Funny enough, they go to TÜV Pfalz... icon_question.gif

My friends from Koblenz only go up to 166 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque...

http://www.********.de/presse/artikel.php?id=84

Wendland: 180 hp / 390 Nm.

http://www.wendland-tuning.de/html/2_0_tdi_100kw_103kw_pumpe-duse.html

One could probably go on like this forever. This means that most likely, many companies already offer "tuning" options for the new models. ... well!

Greetings.
Thomas.

Okay, this is a bit confusing for me. I'm getting my Ibiza TDI Sport PD (96KW) next month. It's the 2004 model, manufactured in 06/2003 (starting in 06/2003, Seat designates Ibiza models as the 2004 model year because of different equipment).
I got a power box from Koch/Chiptronic that is supposed to work in all 4-cylinder common rail diesel engines.
http://i5.ebayimg.com/02/i/00/fd/64/e4_1.JPG
.....here, the performance increase is achieved by controlling the injection magnet valves based on the original parameters.
....does this device also work with EDC 16 engine control units?
...do I have an EDC16 engine control unit?
Regards,
Monchi.

Don't worry, it should work for you.

To my knowledge, the 96kW engine in the Ibiza still has the 'older' version of the engine control unit (ECU).

Does the Ibi already have D4/EU4?

Or does the Ibi already have D4/EU4?
NO, the 130PS TDI PD engine will not be compliant with the Euro 4 emissions standard, so this engine will only be installed in new vehicles until the end of next year (since 2005, Euro 4 compliance is mandatory for new vehicles).

Monchi.

See, and that's why your device is working.

Which vehicles have already had the new control unit installed, and since when?

EDC16 is only used in the 2.0 TDI engines, while EDC15 is used in all other (current) 1.9 TDI engines.

EDC16 has been tunable for a long time; it's best to use a chip and not these boxes. icon_wink.gif

Julian, can the EDC16 also be tuned via the OBD-II interface?
(I find this more appealing than soldering chips.)

Yes, that's true, you just need to find a provider who knows how to do it.

The 1.9TDI with 105 horsepower and the 1.4TDI with 90 horsepower also have EDC16! The V10TDI was the first one with its 2 control units.

As far as I know, you can no longer chip EDC16 ECUs, but you can only flash them.

In EDC16, almost everything runs via the CAN bus, which is the main difference!

Transit time in the calculator: 2000-4000 RPM in the 3rd . The car is fully fueled and accelerates to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, despite weighing almost 1.5 tons.

And what does reality say?

Regards,

Manuel.
