Regarding Polo diesel engines, I might also be able to provide some data, as it likely concerns the Polo 6N (they discontinued the 86C in 8/94), and I have the list in my repair manual.

That would be:

AHG / 1,7 / 57 HP / 4/97-10/97
AKU / 1.7 / 60 HP / 8/97 - End of Series
AEF / 1.9 / 64 HP / 11/95 - End of Production
Appliance / 1.9 / 64 HP / 7/96 - End of Production
AQM / 1,9 / 68 PS / 10/99 - End of Production

The end was always the switch to the 9N, which, according to my understanding, was in the summer of 2001.

It seems that none of the manufacturing spaces are particularly suspicious, as they all don't quite match what you've written. It is, of course, possible that there were specific attempts that did not make it into the book.

However, it seems remarkable to me that they built 4 engines with almost identical performance in parallel... perhaps there are indeed interesting versions for specific purposes or customers, such as the postal service.

Try it with the Skoda Felicia and the VW Caddy pickup based on the Felicia.
they have Lukas pumps inside.
I mean, the engine code letters are AEF. In the Polo, this also means that the engine usually has a Bosch pump.
