The VTG charge air cooler on my turbo is defective.
Although it was temporarily made usable again,
But I don't think this will last.
Now, I would like to have the larger one from Schlüter installed.
My acquaintance (a car mechanic) mentioned that the screws that hold the canister in place are likely impossible to loosen.
(Tested only with integrated turbochargers.)
He's now worried that the screws might break during the conversion, which could completely damage the turbo.
Has anyone else experienced problems with this?
Could I alternatively take my Golf to VW and tell them to order the part from Schlüter and have them install it?

Hi,
Don't worry: The can is securely attached to the bracket with a kind of special stud. If those studs break off, the can, which was already damaged, will just be even more damaged.

They say yes - but the answer will probably be "we don't do that, no repair instructions from VAG... either a new turbocharger or nothing... blah blah".
I thought the metal plate that secures the turbo (with the two screws) would be replaced.
As you describe it, I haven't looked at it that way before ).
I assume that the can you installed is the same one that I need.
So, I can use the order numbers from your post.
I can only thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

Um... I just realized you have the ALH.
I'm not sure if the container described in that article is specifically designed for the ALH loader.
In any case, our ALH-Ibiza (2001) already has a "large" can of the same type.
Therefore, you probably wouldn't get a larger can, but only a complete one... That's why I would rather order the exact can that's already shown (-> the one with the stamped number), as that seems the safest option to me.
Sure, let's see if they'll show some goodwill regarding the turbocharger. Ideally, something should be possible within a period of up to three years...
