Yes, I understand, but I don't want to build an adapter myself! I'm familiar with automotive electrical systems, but I don't have the patience to put something like that together.

I'm just trying to avoid problems like that by buying an adapter.

Then get an adapter from one of the two well-known VAG COM importers (available from our webmaster), and you won't have any problems with it. These parts aren't the cheapest, but they are at least reliable.

VAGCOM is the software, not an adapter manufacturer (and it's based in the USA).

If you want to buy something worthwhile, click on the link to the "Diagnostic Online Shop" at the top, or do a little searching in the forum for suppliers - for example, I bought my adapter from Auto-intern (Rainer wasn't selling anything back then...).

I wouldn't do that with eBay. Who knows what kind of components were used, and you can't hold the seller liable if you damage something with it.

Hello Steffarn,

I recreated the adapter based on Ulf's schematic on a breadboard.
For those with little experience, I believe a ready-made solution or, at the very least, a kit from the online shop: http://shop.dieselschrauber.de/ is more sensible. This saves time, nerves, and ultimately, a lot of money that might be spent on potentially damaged control units.
