As is well known, a common-rail control unit (at least in MAN engines) can only control 6 injectors.
That's why V10 engines require two engine control units (ECUs) that are connected to each other via a CAN bus.
Does anyone know why they don't build a system that can process all 10 injectors? Surely, it should be possible to develop something like that.

I suspect it's cheaper to install two control units than to create a new one.

I also suspect that it depends on the processing power. In other words, it might be too slow (processing too much information).

But, as I said, these are just speculations...

Best regards,
MIkl

Quantities, quantities, and quantities again.

Hi,

As far as I understand, this is due to the processing speed of the engine control unit (ECU). While it would be possible to control more injectors, it would require processors that are so expensive that it would be cheaper to install two ECUs.

By the way, there's also a similar "magic" limit in the context of the Bie PD: 5!

Is there a new control unit available now that can control more PD elements? I read something about that somewhere.

Best regards, WarLord.

So, with the EDC16 series (the currently available version), there were still 5.
Does anyone have more up-to-date information?

According to the documents available to me, the PD-EDC16 also has a 6-cylinder engine.

However, the CR system is specified with 8 cylinders in that case.

I did a quick, superficial search.

EDC-16 for 6-cylinder engines with direct injection (DI) and common rail (CR).

MS6.2/I: Truck PD (UI / UIS) up to 8 cylinders.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to EDC-17 or ME(D)7.
