Hello.

I have a question.

I need a new turbocharger for my Passat 3BG 1.9 TDI 96kw AVF.

I've already removed my turbo, and the part number is 038 145 702 E.
'But the VW workshop gave me the part number 038 145 702 G.'

What is the difference between E and G icon_question.gif icon_question.gif?

Thank you in advance. icon_biggrin.gif

The letter "E" was replaced by the letter "G".

Costs over 1000 euros.

"Part E was used from 01-02, and part G was used from 03 onwards."

Hello, so usually, when the letters have changed, it indicates an error or defect (accumulation/serial change).
So, if you take the new version, the error or defect is usually fixed.

It may be true that the letter representing the better version is different in case of errors.

However, this in no way allows for the reverse conclusion.

Here we have various letters, which could also simply be different parts.

The fuel injectors for the 1Z and AFN engines differ only in the last letter, and they are not interchangeable or indicative of a fault; they are simply different (184 vs. 205, referring to a hole size).

Yes, thank you for the information.

I just bought the G version.
I hope this one lasts longer than my old turbocharger, which failed after only 74,000 km. icon_evil.gif

Hello Martin, of course, one or two different ending characters don't necessarily mean the parts are compatible, and I completely agree with you. However, in some cases, the ending might change, as in this instance. Sometimes, even the entire part number can change.
