Audi/VW Navigation system with G4 Kombi (Fis)

Hi,

I have installed a Golf 4 instrument cluster in my Golf 3 and I am now considering whether to also purchase the navigation unit for the FIS. Now the question: Does the navigation unit operate via CAN bus or are there differences? I have a standard instrument cluster without CAN bus, but a navigation connector, so there must be navigation units that are not CAN bus dependent, right? Are the VW and Audi models also compatible with both vehicles? (Are they all from Blaupunkt?)
