TDI ECU Remapping: Software Only, No Hardware Changes

I have read that starting with the EDC15P+ engine control unit for common rail engines, ...
The software can be deleted and reprogrammed without requiring any changes to the hardware.
What needs to be changed . The engine control unit for ASZ and ARL TDI-PD engines is, from a hardware perspective, 100% compatible . I want to fit my Golf with an ARL engine, but I don't have an engine control unit for that engine yet. However, I would like to save the money by not having to buy one.
if my old one from ASZ also stops working.
I just wanted to ask if it's possible to reprogram it, or not.
If this is possible, then the next question is, who can reprogram this for me ?

Yes, that is possible starting with EDC15P and V. Of course, band-edge programming devices can do that.

I don't know who else does it, but all the 'tuners' I know are still actively flashing ROMs in and out of EDC16 ECUs.

During OBD tuning, the current software can first be read and saved. Then, the ECU is flashed. There are tuners who offer this service.
It is also possible to purchase a flasher device. You can display and modify the data on a laptop while driving.
