Hi.

While reading through the threads, a potential solution for my slight jerking at approximately 1250-1300 RPM emerged: disconnecting the speed sensor on the transmission. icon_evil.gif Even though this might confirm a faulty flow meter in the process.
'Where exactly is this sensor located? I haven't been able to find it yet. I only found the connector for the reverse light.'

Since my odometer is advancing intermittently (though consistently intermittently), a faulty sensor could also be the cause.
I would have to find it first. icon_redface.gif

Thank you for your help with the search.
Hermann.

hello

If I remember correctly, the sensor and connector are located on the left side, high up on the differential. If you open the hood and look between the brake and the tie rod from the front, you should be able to see it. But what does the speed signal have to do with the engine?

.... Again, for those taking notes (for the 100th time): icon_rolleyes.gif

The speed signal goes to the engine control unit (ECU), and from there, it controls the speedometer. It is also used to manage various comfort functions (e.g., jerk damping, coasting deceleration, etc.).

'I've had this problem since I bought the car.'

It says there's a faulty speed signal when I read the error codes. It's also happening in a Passat, year of manufacture 1993, with a 1Z engine.

I was looking for the sensor. This thing definitely has a speedometer cable. And I haven't found a sensor either. I've already been to VW twice. When they read the error codes, it shows the same result. Then the master mechanic looked under the hood, and he had a questioning look on his face; he said, 'It does have a speedometer cable.'

And then I was left standing there, with no idea why.

Perhaps someone here knows something about it.

Greetings.

Early models of the Audi 80 and similar cars actually had a speedometer cable!
To my knowledge, a sensor was installed in the speedometer to provide the engine control unit (ECU) with a speed signal.

@Bertil.

While I have an early B4 1Z (1.93), mine definitely does NOT have a speedometer cable.

On the left side of the gearbox, there is only the connector for the reverse lights. It only has 2 wires connected to it. The sensor must be located somewhere else... icon_confused.gif
