After replacing the fuel injection pump along with all the belts (timing belt, V-belt, and ribbed belt), the following question arose regarding the rubber mount located on the front lower end plate:
Does the engine need to be lifted when attaching the semi-circular support plate? If not, what is the purpose of that part?
Do you mean the part in front of the belts on the tensioner? That's just the torque support for the motor! The engine doesn't need to be lifted for that.
'Thank you, that's exactly the part I was looking for.'
I only don't understand one thing . The engine should tilt to the right or left under load. How is that part in the front supposed to support it?
I had already understood this support as a kind of engine mount.
Sorry, but I'm not entirely sure about that either. I'll try to find out more. As far as I know, based on the Audi workshop manual, it's a torque support. I had to remove that part recently when I replaced the ribbed belt and the tensioner pulley.
I would say that the bearing is there to prevent the engine from tilting too much forward and backward during load changes. The actual engine mounts are located on the left and right sides of the frame and are firmly connected to the engine.
