Hello,

I need new spark plugs. Now the question is: Which ones?

Original VAG: €25.00 per piece.
BOSCH duratherm: €15 per piece (with a 25% discount).
Beru: 8.50 per piece.
Herzog: €6.50 per piece.

Which spark plugs offer a good price-performance ratio?
Has anyone ever seen an ADAC test or something similar?

For one VAG spark plug, I can burn 4 sentences of Herzog. icon_eek.gif

Best regards, KAi.

"A scented candle for 6.50??"

Wow, that's incredibly cheap!

But there's nothing to object to about BERU.

Hi,

to completely confuse things...
Bosch also still offers the 'Chromium' model.
Unfortunately, when half of the spark plugs in my car failed, I couldn't find any Chromium spark plugs available, so I couldn't do a comparison test regarding their lifespan. Now, regular Duratherm spark plugs are doing the job in my AFN engine.

Regards,

Andy.

I have only had positive experiences with BERU so far.
I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

Hello, I mean that the spark plugs used in VW/Audi vehicles are also BERU, and I would also choose those.
8.50 € per piece is quite good compared to 25 € / piece icon_wink.gif.

@mersente

'Most of the parts used in Audi/VW vehicles are from BERU! And the price of 8 euros is quite good, plus the noise reduction is also excellent. I paid around 15 euros for the BERU parts from the parts dealer.'

The Bosch Duratherm Chromium is designed to last a very long time, and that's why Bosch offers a 3-year warranty on it.

Hello everyone,

Okay, after contacting several eBay sellers, I finally got the best possible price and placed the order. If anyone needs it, I'm happy to share the seller's contact information.

New, genuine BERU parts are available for: €5 per piece!

I'm currently getting 9 pieces for 50,- including shipping and property tax.
At that price, icon_biggrin.gif it's also possible to get the neighbor involved.

Best regards, KAi.

Post16-03-2004, 11:34    Subject: Glow Plug Warranty: What You Need to Know Quote

Hi everyone,

What's the point of a 3-year warranty on parts that only cost 6-8 euros? At best, one of them might break. And if it's always the same part that fails, then the problem is probably with the engine itself.

'My original VAG-branded glow plugs were replaced at 130,000 km, but they still looked okay visually. However, they had a noticeably lower power output, which meant they seemed to take a bit longer to reach the same 'glowing' temperature as the new Beru glow plugs (about 4-5 seconds). I didn't notice any difference when starting the engine, even in winter.'

A good H7 bulb costs more, doesn't last as long, and everyone accepts that it's a consumable part with no warranty.

The frustrating thing is that VAG (Volkswagen Group) charges 100-400% markup on wear-and-tear parts like glow plugs, mass airflow sensors, and fuel injectors.

I wouldn't have a problem taking the cheapest option (Herzog). The market for spare parts for these glow plugs isn't very large. For me, that means only companies that supply these plugs as original equipment to someone (not necessarily VAG) produce them. And with that, they probably aren't that bad.

Hello,

That's correct, there are no original VAG glow plugs. The only "original" thing is the VW/Audi logo, which is probably still printed on by Beru, and you pay 18 euros more per plug for exactly the same, good quality product.
The same applies to many other engine parts from various suppliers, regardless of whether the quality is good or not.
It also always depends on how the merchants agree among themselves, both with the suppliers and with the VAG group.

When buying parts from VAG (or other car brands), it's always important to pay attention to what you're actually getting. Sometimes they sell products that don't meet the expected quality, for example, tensioner pulleys from a certain series that can break and cause timing belt failures. Unfortunately, you can't always assess this beforehand, but you can rely on the experiences of others, which is why the forum exists.

I would definitely choose Beru; they have good quality and the price is right. However, I wouldn't buy from VAG, as the extra cost of 18 euros doesn't justify the additional storage costs.
I only buy Frostschutz G12Plus from VAG dealerships, and the quality of this antifreeze is very good. It's even sometimes 50 cents cheaper than what's offered in some accessory shops and hardware stores. However, even within the same city, there are price differences between individual VAG dealerships.
